Tesamorelin 5 mg

Active ingredient: Tesamorelin acetate (synthetic growth hormone–releasing factor analog)

Formulation: Sterile powder for reconstitution; supplied as 5 mg per vial.

Indication (common use): Designed to reduce excess abdominal fat associated with HIV-associated lipodystrophy by stimulating endogenous growth hormone release.

Mechanism of action: Acts as a growth hormone–releasing hormone (GHRH) analogue that binds GHRH receptors in the pituitary, increasing pulsatile secretion of growth hormone and downstream IGF‑1, which can alter body composition by reducing visceral adipose tissue.

Pharmacokinetics: Rapid stimulation of GH with a short systemic half‑life; effects mediated by increased GH/IGF‑1 rather than prolonged peptide exposure.

Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to tesamorelin or any excipient; active malignancy (may stimulate tumor growth via GH/IGF‑1 pathways); pregnancy and lactation unless benefits outweigh risks.

Warnings and precautions:

• Monitor glucose metabolism; may worsen hyperglycemia or precipitate diabetes. Check fasting glucose and HbA1c before starting and periodically thereafter.
• Monitor IGF‑1, signs of pituitary dysfunction, and adverse effects on intracranial pressure (headache, visual changes).
• Use with caution in patients with sleep apnea, active malignancy, or severe hepatic impairment.
• Injection‑site reactions may occur.

Common adverse reactions: Injection‑site erythema/pain, arthralgia, myalgia, peripheral edema, increased IGF‑1, elevated fasting glucose.

Storage: Store lyophilized vials refrigerated as directed; protect from light. After reconstitution, follow stability guidelines (use within manufacturer‑specified timeframe; store refrigerated if needed).
